Astana, June 17, 2026 — The RSE “Information and Analytical Center for Environmental Protection” (IACEP) under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan announces the launch of EcoAgent, an intelligent environmental analytics system. The project is aimed at transforming state environmental control processes and optimizing the collection and analysis of environmental data.
Modern environmental monitoring involves processing massive volumes of unstructured data, including industrial environmental monitoring reports, automated monitoring system data, permitting documentation, and inspection results. Manual analysis of such information inevitably increases the risks associated with human error. The development of the EcoAgent platform became a natural step toward the digitalization of environmental protection activities.
EcoAgent is a comprehensive analytical platform offering:
• Automated Cross-Analysis: Intelligent integration of data from multiple sources, including the National Data Bank (NDB), e-License, enterprise systems, ERAP, and ERSOR. The system instantly compares actual emission indicators with established limits.
• AI-Powered Monitoring: The artificial intelligence module analyzes automated monitoring system data in real time, detecting regulatory exceedances without inspector involvement.
• Risk Management: A proactive environmental risk assessment system. AI assigns risk ratings to enterprises, enabling inspectors of the Committee for Environmental Regulation and Control to focus on the most critical facilities.
• Visualization and Reporting: An interactive environmental map provides a comprehensive overview of the situation across regions, while the automated processing of industrial environmental monitoring reports reduces document processing time from several days to just minutes.
The system is powered by advanced computing infrastructure — the project has been successfully deployed on the Alem.Cloud supercomputer of JSC “NIT” using 8 GPUs, ensuring exceptional processing speed and scalability.
At the current stage, the system is undergoing pilot testing at five of the country’s largest industrial enterprises, including Tengizchevroil (TCO), Kazzinc, Aluminium of Kazakhstan, ANPZ, and Kazakhmys Smelting. The platform already supports 21 active accounts for employees of the Committee for Environmental Regulation and Control.
“The implementation of EcoAgent is our contribution to strengthening the digital ecosystem of environmental protection. We strive to ensure that environmental control in Kazakhstan becomes transparent, efficient, and responsive,” representatives of IACEP noted.
World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed annually on June 17. This international day was established by the United Nations in 1994 following the adoption of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. Its main purpose is to raise global awareness about the problems of land degradation, desertification, and drought, as well as to promote effective measures for the protection and restoration of natural resources. This day reminds people that fertile land is one of the most valuable resources on Earth, providing food, water, and livelihoods for billions of people.
Desertification is the process by which fertile land gradually loses its productivity and becomes less capable of supporting plant life. It is caused by factors such as climate change, prolonged droughts, deforestation, overgrazing, soil erosion, and unsustainable agricultural practices. Desertification threatens ecosystems, biodiversity, food security, and the well-being of communities around the world.
Drought is one of the most serious natural hazards affecting both people and the environment. It occurs when there is a prolonged period of insufficient rainfall, leading to water shortages in rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and soil. The consequences of drought include crop failures, loss of livestock, reduced water supplies, economic difficulties, and an increased risk of wildfires.
The challenges of desertification and drought affect billions of people worldwide. International organizations warn that land degradation is accelerating due to climate change and unsustainable use of natural resources. Therefore, countries are encouraged to restore degraded lands, conserve water resources, and implement sustainable land management practices.
For Kazakhstan, the issue of desertification is particularly important because much of the country’s territory lies within arid and semi-arid regions. Protecting soil fertility, preserving water resources, and ensuring the sustainable use of pastures are key priorities. One of the most significant environmental problems in the region is the shrinking of the Aral Sea, which has had serious ecological and social consequences.
World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is marked by international conferences, educational programs, environmental campaigns, tree-planting activities, and public awareness events. These initiatives help promote environmental responsibility and encourage people to take action in protecting land and water resources.
In conclusion, World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought highlights the importance of preserving healthy land and ecosystems for future generations. Through international cooperation and responsible environmental management, humanity can reduce land degradation and build a more sustainable future.
